Domestic airlines flew 13% more passengers in Sept

The six domestic airlines reported an over 13 per cent increase in the number of passengers flown in September this year at 45.55 lakh compared to 40.18 lakh passengers flown during the same period in the previous year.

The latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) show that low-cost airline, IndiGo continued to be the market leader with a market share of over 30 per cent having carried 13.79 lakh passengers in September this year.

On a stand-alone basis, Air India which flew 9.26 lakh passengers in September this year took the second spot with a market share of 20.3 per cent followed by Jet Airways which had a market share of 19.1 per cent having carried 8.70 lakh passengers.

But if the market share of JetLite, the low cost arm of Jet Airways is combined with the passengers flown by Jet Airways then the combined entity has a market share of 24.6 per cent with JetLite having carried 2.52 lakh passengers and having a market share of 5.5 per cent. Jet Airways and JetLite provide individual data on passengers carried by them in the domestic skies to the DGCA every month.

SpiceJet, which carried 7.86 lakh passengers in September, had a market share of 17.3 per cent followed by GoAir (which flew 3.42 lakh passengers and had a market share of 7.5 per cent).
