The Boeing Dreamliner, one of the most advanced aircraft made using composite materials, was flown non-stop from Seattle to Delhi in 14 hours and then to Hyderabad for the Indian Aviation 2012 show.

Dr Dinesh Keskar, Senior Vice-President of Asia-Pacific and India, Boeing, described the Dreamliner as the first all-new airplane of the 21{+s}{+t} century that deploys game-changing technologies. It is certain to revolutionalise passenger experience and airline operations.”

The 787 Dreamliner in static display is painted in Air India's signature red, white and orange colours.

By using composite materials, which apart from being light, it is possible to maintain different humidity levels which adds to the comfort of passengers. This is something which was not possible in earlier aircraft as such a move corrodes materials.

The new features such as seating and larger windows bring for better visibility. Another addition helps freshen up interiors and adds to the passenger comfort. Significantly, the planes that come powered with fuel efficient Rolls-Royce and GE engines, also add to the profitability of airliners, Dr Keskar said.

Thus far, more than 800 787s have been ordered by 60 customers from across the globe. India will be among countries which will have Dreamliners soon.
