Dredging Corporation of India Ltd (DCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Union Shipping Ministry in New Delhi on Thursday for 2012-13, according to a press release.
Established here in 1976, DCI provides integrated dredging and related marine services for promoting national and international maritime trade, beach nourishment, reclamation, inland dredging, and environmental protection.
The release adds that the DCI has taken steps for augmentation of its capacity and increasing the strength of its fleet by purchasing three more dredgers, which are under construction at IHC, the Netherlands.
The first dredger is going to be delivered by end of 2012. A back hoe dredger constructed by De Donge, the Netherlands, has already joined the fleet during the year.
The MoU for the financial year 2012-13 was signed by Mr Pradeep Kumar Sinha, IAS, Secretary (Shipping), and Capt D.K.Mohanty, Chairman and MD of DCI.
