The number of consequential train accidents from September 2017 to August 2018 has dropped to 75 from 80 in the corresponding previous 12 months.

Reduction in number of serious train accidents has led to lower fatalities — from 249 to 40 — and injuries from 513 to 57, said a release issued by Northern Railway.

The release was issued following a safety performance review meeting held by Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani with Railway Board members, General Managers and CMD, Konkan Railway last week through videoconferencing.
