The Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu, on Friday said the proposed East West Metro - connecting the satellite township of Salt Lake to the twin city of Howrah - will be completed in another 30 months.
Work across stalled patches has begun as has "tunnelling work".
"Before coming here, I have had a meeting and work has begun on the E-W metro project. It will be completed in another 2.5 years," he said at the Bengal Global Business Summit.
Work is being fastracked too.
According to Prabhu, even the dedicated freight corridor will be completed in another three years. The dedicated freight corridor will allow faster movement of goods and cargo. Direct linkages to ports will be another benefit.
He further maintained that plans are afoot to ensure better usage of real estate in railway stations. Vertical development of spaces - on a lease basis - is also being mulled.
"Industry can participate in the project on a PPP basis," Prabhu said.
