Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) is expecting more global orders for warships from countries in Africa, Asia and West Asia.

The Rs 1,283-crore defence PSU is currently manufacturing a $58.5-million (approximately Rs 302 crore at current exchange) offshore patrol vessel for the Republic of Mauritius.

“Countries from Africa, Asia and West Asia have shown interest for buying our warships,” Rear Admiral A.K. Verma (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, said while addressing the media here on Tuesday. However, Mr Verma did not divulge further details on buyers' enquiries.

Stating that GRSE was aiming to deliver the warship to Mauritius by 2014, Mr Verma said that the construction work of the vessel had been progressing and plans were afoot to lay the Keel (main structure) of the ship on April 23.

The company touched the Rs 1,000-crore mark in the last fiscal and posted nearly 22 per cent growth in revenues in 2011-12, according to Mr Verma. “We are expecting a higher turnover of approximately Rs 1,600 crore in 2012-13,” he added.

The company's current order-book includes four Anti Submarine Warfare Corvettes, eight Landing Craft Utility vessels for Indian Navy, and eight Inshore Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard.

The company is expecting to deliver the ships by the end of 2015.
