GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. has set up seven Cardiac Emergency Resuscitation Stations under its signature programme, PassengerIsPrime. This arrangement has been made in a bid to provide immediate assistance to any passenger or visitor hit by a sudden cardiac arrest, according to a statement from GMR.
These stations have been set up at strategic locations across the Passenger Terminal Building -- two in the domestic Security Hold Area and one each in the international security area, check-in area, domestic arrivals, international arrivals and the airport village.
Cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops beating. With this disruption, the heart halts pumping blood to the brain, lungs and other vital organs, often leading to death of the person within minutes in the absence of timely defibrillation. However, cardiac arrest can be reversed if treated within a few minutes.
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) done by hand or using the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can help revive the affected person. An AED is a portable device that checks the heart’s rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm. Each Cardiac Emergency Resuscitation Station at the airport is well-equipped to provide support.
Over 100 volunteers from across the stakeholders in the airport have been trained to help in case of any emergency. The airport has a 24X7 medical centre with a 17-bed emergency treatment facility, operated by Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd.
