The consortium of GMR-Megawide is among five consortia short-listed for the development of Fransisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao airport) in the Philippines.
The consortium is already operating the Mactan Cebu International Airport in the Philippines.
The Public Private Partnerhship Center of Philippines Government, on its website, has listed GMR Infrastructure and Megawide Consortium, Filinvest-Jatco-Sojitz Consortium, Maya Consortium of Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc; VINCI Airports SAS, Phillippine Airports Consortium comprising Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and Philippines Airport Management Company and SMHC-IIAC consortium of San Miguel Holdings Corporation and Incheon International Airport Corporation as pre-qualified bidders. Of the eight prospective bidders, six of them had submitted pre-qualification documents.
As per the project brief, the Davao operations, maintenance and development project is estimated at $810 million or 40.57 billion Philippino Pesos. Operational for over 15 years, the airport handled more than 3.5 million passengers in the year 2016.
Apart from developing two major airports in India, the greenfield airport in Hyderabad and the majestic new Delhi International Airport, it also has bagged the mandate to develop airport in Goa.
The infrastructure and construction company has the distinction of developing Sabia Gokcen airport in Turkey.
The Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of Philippines is the implementation agency of the airport project.
The Davao airport, located in Catitipan Barangay Buhanjin Davao in Miandanao, is the third busiest airport in the Philippines. The airport project involves expansion and construction of new terminal buildings and operations and maintenance.
