Cornelis Vrieswijk, the Chief Executive Officer of GoAir, has stepped down citing family commitments. Jeh Wadia, Managing Director of the airline will take over the role until a replacement is found.

Vrieswijk expressed his desire to relocate to Amsterdam since his family did not wishto settle in Mumbai. “The board understood his compulsions to move back and accepted his reasoning to move on. Cor expressed to the board that he will be available and the management of GoAir to ensure a smooth transition. The board appreciated his offer and accepted it, and wished him and his family all the very best,”GoAir said in a statement.

Commenting on this development, Vrieswijk said: “It is unfortunate that despite best efforts, my family did not shift to India but rather wants me to be back with them in Amsterdam. In the end, my family demands were creating unfair pressure on all the stakeholders.”

Jeh Wadia, Managing Director, GoAir, said: “GoAir recognizes the deep contribution of Cor, but at the end-of-the-day, for Cor, it was family calling and it was futile to shunt between two conti-nents. Going forward, I will take over the CEO’s role until a suitable replacement takes place.”
