Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, is to restart its direct flights to Thiruvananthapuram after a gap of three years.
Beginning December 15, Gulf Air will fly from Bahrain to Trivandrum International Airport with five weekly flights, the company said.
“Our decision to resume flights to Thiruvananthapuram emphasises the importance we attach to India, one of our key markets, and our business strategy to concentrate on high-demand point-to-point routes to ensure our core customer base is served effectively and efficiently,” the carrier’s acting Chief Executive Officer Maher Salman Al Musallam said in a statement.
Gulf Air has been flying to India since 1960 and Thiruvananthapuram is the fifth destination in India to be added to the airline's existing network. It currently has direct airlinks connecting Bahrain with the cities of Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi.
In July 2010, Gulf Air had suspended flights to Thiruvananthapuram due to low profitability of the route.
