HAL signs tech co-operation initiative with CII

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has signed a technology co-operation initiative with CII Institute of Quality.The initiative is to enhance quality and competitiveness of HAL’s products and services.

“This is the first-ever initiative signed between HAL and CII. The main objective is to enhance the competitiveness of HAL in its quality journey towards excellence,” N. Kumar, former President CII and Chairman, CII IQ.

The broad areas of this co-operation is expected to cover development of HAL corporate quality vision, quality measurement and award system, action plans for improvements, integration of vendors and partners in to HAL quality system, training module for vendors, integrated HAL’s quality systems and quality assurance.

CII-HAL Technology Cooperation initiative was signed by K. Naresh Babu, Managing Director, Bangalore Complex, and Greeta Varughese, Senior Director & Head, CII IQ, in the presence of N. Kumar, Chairman, CII IQ, and R.K. Tyagi, Chairman, HAL. This co-operation will be for three years to start with.

Ties up with IIT Madras

HAL has also signed a technology co-operation initiative with Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) for establishing a Centre for Aerospace Transmission Systems (CATS). It was signed between Vijay Kumara, General Manager, Rotary Wings Research & Design Centre, and M.S. Shanmugam of IIT Madras. Speaking on the occasion, P. Soundara Rajan, Managing Director (Helicopter Complex), said “this is our first-step towards defence preparedness to have our own knowledge base.” The HAL Info DNA Centre named ‘Amrit’ was inaugurated by Defence Minister A.K. Antony. Amrit stands for Analytics on Measures for Result Improvement and Transformation. “'The centre with latest infrastructure will function as the nodal hub for enabling e-governance and strategic business applications across HAL,” said Tyagi. The Centre is maintained by HAL’s own security, helpdesk and IT managers who manage the entire DC services.
