Highways Ministry launches advisory service on AIR

Will be broadcast on three FM stations on the Delhi-Jaipur highway

The Highways Ministry has started broadcasting highway advisory service on a pilot phase, on three AIR FM stations on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. It plans to have a dedicated frequency if the project is successful.

Information on accidents, traffic jams and boarding and lodging will be sourced from highway developers and users, among others.

It will be aired from Delhi, Alwar and Jaipur FM channels through digital broadcast. Such services are aired in 40 countries, including the US, Canada, Japan and Australia.

“This will be a free-to-air distribution system, with 22 bulletins through the day. We will engage an agency to get feedback on the system,” said Sanjay Mitra, Secretary, Road Transport and Highways, adding that the Highways Ministry will look for a dedicated frequency for such a channel later.

Electronic tolling The Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, said that by April 30, electronic tolling will be done in about 380 toll plazas across National Highways.

Gadkari added that Metrino service — a personal rapid-transit service — will be launched between Delhi and Manesar, with expense for phase one expected to be at ₹1000 crore. .
