L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited has commissioned one of the biggest casting yards in the country in a 72-acre site.
The concessionaire for the Hyderabad metro, L&T plans to set up another one to handle pre-cast works for the Rs 16,375-crore 72-km-long elevated metro rail project.
The casting site has capability to complete 450 segments per month and has facility to stock about 1200 segments. Most of the casting work is handled offsite and then shifted to project site for installation.
"The project implementation has entered the implementation phase and works on piers is underway. Four vendors for supply of rolling stocks have been short-listed and negotiations are at are at advanced stage. We expect to select one among them by next month," Mr. V.B. Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director of L&T Metro Rail, said.
Bombardier, Hyundai-Rotem-BEML consortium, CAF of Spain and CSR of China are in fray for rolling stocks. "The order value for rolling stock supplies is likely to be in the range of Rs 1,500 -1,800 crore," he said.
After a tour of the casting yard, Mr Gadgil said that the company will finalise all the vendors shortly as their engagement in the project from an early stage would be mutually beneficial. Therefore, last month French firm Keolis was selected as an operations and maintenance partner for the project.
