Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge today said while it is good to have high speed railway systems, India should not rush into adopting some technology just because it is cheap. It is important to be aware of the safety aspect. “We already have 64,000 km of train track,” said Khadge.
In a related move, Railways today announced setting up on high speed rail corporation, which will undertake studies and evaluate options for high speed trains. Incidentally, railways had earlier announced setting up of a high speed railway authority. “Both the agencies will co-exist,” said Railway Board chairman Arunendra Kumar.
