SpiceJet has 13 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet. At the moment 12 are flying as the 13 aircraft has just come and is awaiting approval from the authorities before it joins service.
It was not immediately clear which routes these aircraft operate on as this changes almost daily and also possibly because the airline is keen to ensure that passengers flying on them are not worried about their safety.
In February this year, while announcing the launch of its daily non-stop service linking Hyderabad and Jeddah, SpiceJet had said in a statement said it will operate the service with 189-seater Boeing 737 MAX. The flight is set to start on March 25.
In a statement on February 14, the airline announced a direct daily flight linking Kozhikode to Jeddah from April 20. It plans to use a Boeing 737 MAX for the flight.
Jet Airways
Jet Airways is the other Indian carrier which also has the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft but all the five aircraft in its fleet are currently grounded. If the airline had not run into financial troubles then the number of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet would have possibly reached double figures.
The Boeing website states that the MAX is the fastest selling aircraft in the company’s history accumulating over 4,700 orders from more than 100 customers worldwide.
The four variants in the MAX family come with other attractive features – the 737 MAX 7 can seat between 138-153 passengers and fly a maximum range of 7,080 km, while the Boeing 737 MAX 10 can seat 184-204 passengers in a two-class configuration and do a maximum range of 5,990 km with one auxiliary tank making it technically superior to the Boeing 737.
