Indian regional navigation satellite system, UTRAQ, was launched here on Friday.
The system was designed by Ramakrishna Krishna Electro Pvt Ltd (REC) in partnership with Shanghai Mobiletek and controlled by the Indian Space Research Organisation. ST Microelectronics is the chipset manufacturer.
The system is designed to provide positioning in a 1,500-km radius around the Indian mainland as its primary service area.
Other components in the system would include facilities for tracking, ranging, command, control and timing.
REC is launching two products with and without antenna, Shivang Luthra, MD, said. The product will be launched for commercial vehicles, especially automobiles. Samples would be distributed in October and commercialisation was planned a few months later. The modules will be made in Shanghai at the Mobiletek facility initially.
