The IndiGo Airlines Chairman, Rahul Bhatia, had yesterday met the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, and expressed his interest to be a part of the State’s efforts to develop new airports, hospitality projects and make it an aviation hub.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, during the meeting, Rahul Bhatia said that IndiGo was interested in setting up a chain of hotels, improving air connectivity and an MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) facility in partnership with Airbus.
The Andhra Pradesh Government has recently brought down the VAT on aviation turbine fuel from 16 per cent to one per cent to attract more airlines. AP also seeks to develop several airports, including upgrading the airports at Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Vijayawada.
Bhatia also expressed IndiGo’s interest in setting up a university in partnership with the State, the statement said.
