Putting the Rs 19,000 crore Metrolink Express for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar (MEGA) on fast-track, core infrastructure work on the ambitious project will commence in October this year.
The first phase of the project, fast-tracked with the formation of a special purpose vehicle (SPV), will commence commercial operations in August 2017. The second phase will be fully operational in March 2021.
This is one of the most advanced technical projects in India, based on communication-based train control (CBTC) technology which will enable driverless train operations in the future, according to a press release here on Monday.
In this connection, MEGA has commenced technical discussions for the schedule of dimensions (SoD) with the Research, Design & Standards Organization (RDSO).
RDSO examines the design and safety aspects for all metro projects across the country.
The discussions will be followed by the final safety certification required by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS). The RDSO will review the ongoing technical details for the project and, based on its assessment, will give its technical nod.
