Jet Airways has denied that its bank accounts were frozen for non-payment of service tax dues. The outstanding payment of Rs 35 crore as service tax would be cleared by March 15, the company has said.
Stating that it would like to “clarify its position on certain inaccurate, damaging and misleading media reports with regard to service tax payments’’, Jet Airways said that a payment schedule has been mutually worked out and accepted together with the tax authorities and said “at no point of time the airline’s accounts have been frozen’’.
It said that no bank account has been frozen or attached as “reported inaccurately’’ in certain sections of the media. As mutually agreed upon, the company had paid already Rs 35 crore to the service tax department and the balance Rs 35 crore would be paid in full on March 15.
Jet Airways said that the service tax department was in touch with IATA with regard to having their proceeds remitted when the collections were paid to Jet Airways.
