Jet Airways has grounded five more aircraft on Wednesday on account of non-payment of dues to lenders.
The airline, on Tuesday, had informed of grounding four aircraft.
On Monday, BusinessLine had reported that in a letter written to Etihad, Naresh Goyal, the promoter and Chairman of Jet Airways, had urged his partner airline for urgent interim funding support of ₹750 crore. He wrote, “...as you are aware, Jet Airways is in a precarious position, with more than 50 aircraft grounded, and increasing arrears of vendors and salaries which makes the need for interim funding all the more imperative.”
According to Jet Airways’ website, the airline has 119 aircraft, BusinessLine had reported that over 40 per cent of its fleet was not operating.
This is the fifth time in a month the airline has grounded flights.
