Kandla Port Trust has bagged the Major Port of the Year for 2011-12 at the third All-India Maritime and Logistics Awards 2012 (MALA 2012) held in Mumbai last week.
According to a press release issued here, this is the third time in a row that the Kandla port has won it. Other nominees for the award were the port trusts of Chennai and Visakhapatnam.
The awards were chosen by a jury headed by former Shipping Secretary DT Joseph.
Kandla Port Trust registered a throughput of 82.5 million tonnes in 2011-12, the highest in the country, and created national history by handling a cargo of 82.30 mt.
