The Kochi Metro Rail requires a total of 40.409 hectares of land for the project, including for parking, an official release said.
The requirement is over eight hectares more than the estimate in the detailed project report.
According to the release, Kalamassery, Edappally, Kaloor stations will get additional parking space other than two terminal stations, which will have ample parking.
The total land required for all 22 stations is 9.3941 hectors, which include minimum parking in almost all stations. For the additional parking, 2.7869 hectares will be used.
In places such as Aluva shunting neck, Aluva station to Pulinchodu, Muttom towards the yard, Kalamassery near Vallarpadam Flyover, overbridge at Kalamassery near Nippon Toyota, Madhava Pharmacy corridor towards M.G. Road, Jose Junction corridor, both entries and exits of South Railway station as well as Vyttila Mobility Hub and Silver Sand area where the viaduct is positioned outside the median, the land required is 4.623 hectares.
The depot at Muttom meant for the maintenance and repairing of rolling stock requires an area of 23.605 hectares.
“We are going ahead with the preparations at a fast pace to avoid any delay in implementing the project. Now the next step is taking the land in possession so that we can start the work,” Elias George, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd, said.
