Kolkata Port Trust Chairman RPS Kahlon, who was arrested on Wednesday, was remanded to police custody on Thursday for eight days by a court here.
Mumbai businessman The senior IAS officer was arrested on the charge of taking an illegal gratification of ₹20 lakh allegedly from a Mumbai-based businessman DD Jagtap Dattaji. Dattaji was also arrested.
Kahlon's counsel pleaded before the court that the question of illegal gratification did not arise as the money was not recovered from Kahlon’s possession.
Both will be produced before the court on March 17.
