Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd has won the corporate social responsibility award at the annual Seatrade Maritime Awards event hosted during Dubai Maritime Week.
During the event earlier this week, individuals, organisations and companies from across West Asia, Africa and the Indian subcontinent maritime and shipping industry were honoured.
C Sasidhar, Managing Director of Krishnapatnam Port, received the award from C F George, Managing Director, Simatech Shipping LLC, and Chris Hayman, Chairman, Seatrade, according to a statement.
Krishnapatnam Port is in its seventh year of operations and has created a socio-economic atmosphere that has benefited the surrounding inhabitants creating novel opportunities for empowerment and enterprise building.
Currently, the port invests its resources into education, skill promotion and job creation, health and safety in partnership with CVR Foundation.
The port started its CSR endeavour by building 500 houses with support infrastructure as part of its rehabilitation and resettlement programme for the nearby villages. It then gradually covered education and developed other social facilities for local communities.
Reformatted for 2014 with new categories, the Seatrade Maritime Awards winners were chosen by an independent panel of judges. It attracted 14 entrants to the CSR category.
