L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Ltd has set up a Construction Skills Development Centre at the Uppal depot and precast yard in Hyderabad.

After inaugurating the centre in the presence of L&T group companies, V. B. Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director of the L&T metro project said here today, “The objective of these training centres is to evaluate and identify skill deficiency/shortfall with the workmen during their induction and to provide hands-on training in the respective tasks to deploy them onsite."

As a part of the skills development initiative and Corporate Social Responsibility, L&T is imparting skills training. This is part of L&T’s efforts to facilitating employment generation.

These training centres would impart focussed short-term training to workmen in trades such as formwork, bar-bending, pre-casting, welding and scaffolding. Other trades would be added based on the future requirements.

Those chosen would also be trained on the maintenance and usage of the right tools, orientation and awareness on the vulnerability of working places, adoption of safe work methodology and discipline.

Approximately 80 workmen will be trained each month from each of the training centres. More intensive training for a longer period will be arranged in the Construction Skills Training Institute located at Jadcherla, about 70 km from Hyderabad.
