The location of the proposed second major port in Andhra Pradesh, the first being Visakhapatnam, has not yet been finalised and the choice is between Nakkapalli in Visakhapatnam district and Ramaiahpeta in Prakasam district, according to State Minister for Ports and Infrastructure G. Srinivasa Rao.
At an all-party meeting on the issue here on Monday evening, the Minister said an unfortunate controversy was being kicked up that the port was being shifted to Prakasam district at his instance, as he hailed from the district.
“There is no truth in such allegations. The technical committee has submitted its report. The Navy is objecting to the location of the port at Nakkapalli, as it will be near the proposed alternative naval base of the Eastern Naval Command. On the other hand, the draft at Ramaiahpeta is not sufficient and there are certain other technical problems as well. A final decision has to be taken after considering the pros and cons,” he said.
