Vistara and AirAsia India have said they will not allow passengers to carry Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones either in check-in or hand baggage. The ban has been imposed due to security concerns about the phone.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is yet to place any ban on carrying the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone, which the two Indian carriers have banned.
“Guests are not permitted to carry the Galaxy Note 7, including recalled and replacement devices whether in person, in cabin bags or in check-in baggage. Any guests found with the device will be denied boarding,” AirAsia said in a statement.
Growing banThe two Indian carriers join a growing number of international carriers, including Singapore Airlines and airberlin, that have banned flyers from carrying the phone.
On October 15, Singapore Airlines said: “In view of the ban of the Galaxy Note 7 device by the US Department of Transportation, Singapore Airlines wishes to inform customers that the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone will be prohibited from being brought on board all our flights on person, in carry-on baggage or checked-in baggage with effect from 16 October.”
The statement added that the smartphone also cannot be shipped as air cargo. “Anyone found in possession of the device will be denied boarding,” the airline said.
