The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), which has added garment to its composition of export cargoes, is planning to handle 25 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) of garment cargo every month.
A press release from the NMPT said here that the first consignment of 4,237 packets of garments/linen, produced at the Hassan SEZ by Himatsingka Seide Ltd, was exported through the port in the container vessel m.v. OEL Trust on Monday.
The mainline operator for the cargo was CMA CGM while Cargolinks was the handling agent.
The total transit time will be 28 days, it said.
Quoting Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, the release attributed the handling of this new cargo, which was moving through neighbouring ports, to the proactive marketing efforts made by the port at various locations of the hinterland during the last few years, coupled with infrastructure additions made for the smooth handling of containers.
Mr Tamilvanan said that the above garment unit, which is a 100-per cent export-oriented unit, is expected to move its entire consignment of export, to the tune of 25 TEUs a month, through the New Mangalore port.
