New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has taken up the mechanisation of a berth and the development of another berth, according to PC Parida, NMPT Chairman.

Speaking at the republic day function at New Mangalore on Monday, he said the ‘Make in India’ programme launched by the Prime Minister will spur development and increase the export-import trade for which Indian major ports should enhance their capacity and efficiency.

Capacity building

To meet the challenge, NMPT has taken up the project for mechanisation of berth number 18 and the development of berth number 19 on public-private partnership mode to enhance the capacity and productivity.

He said that this will help provide service with maximum efficiency at minimum cost.

CSR activities

Parida said that the port has identified 10 schools for renovation of toilets. This should be completed during the current financial year.

He said the port has also taken up street lighting on the national highway near the port at a cost of ₹1 crore as part of its corporate social responsibility. He thanked the employees for their active participation in the ‘Swatch Bharath Abhiyan’.
