A two-member committee has been appointed by the Shipping Ministry to go into ways and means to improve the Chennai port’s cargo handling.
The committee’s appointment comes after the Madras High Court ordered shifting of coal handling from Chennai to Ennore port and a ban by Karnataka on iron ore exports.
Mr G.J. Rao, Chairman of Paradip Port Trust, and P.V.K. Mohan, Chairman of National Shipping Board, are the two members who gave their recommendations to the ChPT on Friday.
