New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) planted around 400 saplings at Meenakaliya village near the port on Wednesday.
A press release said that students and teachers of Meenakaliya High School, villagers of Meenakaliya, Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, Mr T.S.N. Murthy, Deputy Chairman of NMPT, Mr C.D. Kumar, Senior Environmental Officer of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Mr Palaiah, Deputy Conservator of Forests, planted saplings in the village.
The port, which planted 10,000 saplings in 2010-11 in its premises, will plant another 10,000 saplings during the current financial year, the release added.
