New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) is planning to plant 10,000 saplings in its surroundings this year.
Speaking at the World Environment Day celebration at the port here on Wednesday, P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, said pollution has come down in the vicinity of the port due to various measures adopted by it.
NMPT does business by taking care of environment. The port has a green belt area of around 33 per cent as against the requirement of 30 per cent.
H. Laxmikantha, Assistant Environment Officer of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, was the chief guest at the function.
