The Government has approved two highway development projects — one each in Bihar and Gujarat — at an estimated cost of Rs 1,912 crore.

The projects approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) are the four-laning of a highway in the Buddhist tourist circuit in Bihar at a cost of Rs 1,408.85 crore and six-laning of a Vadodara-Surat highway section in Gujarat at Rs 503.16 crore.

“The CCEA has approved the project for the development of four-laning of 93 km (approximately) long Gaya-Hisua-Rajgir-Nalanda-Biharsharif section on the National Highway-82 in Bihar,” an official statement said on Thursday. This project is likely to be completed within three years of signing of the contract agreement.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency will provide loan assistance with 100 per cent financing for civil construction and supervision works, the statement said.

The Vadodara-Surat project in Gujarat includes construction of a new four-lane bridge across the river Narmada and two eight-lane flyovers. The total length of the road will be approximately 6.7 km.

Of the estimated Rs 503.16 crore project cost, about Rs 17 crore will be for land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities.
