Paradip Port Trust has said it handled the highest ever traffic of 36.06 million tonnes in the first six months (April to September) in the current financial year as compared to 34.35 million tonnes of cargo handled during the corresponding period of the previous year. This is a 5 per cent increase and helped PPT retain the second position among the major ports in the country.
During this period, thermal coal traffic increased 8.71 per cent at 14.83 million tonnes against 13.64 million tonnes handled during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Traffic of petroleum products also registered 6.40 per cent growth at 9.52 million tonnes against 8.94 million tonnes handled during the same period last year.
The port handled 771 vessels in the port during the first six months of the current financial year against 692 vessels handled in the first six months of the last year.
