The Palakkad division of the Southern Railway recorded an increase of 13.8 per cent in passenger earnings in the first four months of the current financial year.
Quoting Mr S.K. Raina, Divisional Railway Manager of Palakkad division, a press release said here that passenger earnings reached Rs 123 crore in the first four months of the fiscal as against Rs 108 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. Mr Raina said this at the Independence Day celebrations in Palakkad, the release said.
The division handed 2.41 crore passengers during the first four months of the fiscal.
The release said that the progress of railway electrification between Shoranur and Mangalore has been started from the Shoranur end.
Of the 147 level crossings on the division, 146 are manned. The remaining crossings near Mangalore will be manned from September. With this, Palakkad division would be the first division of the Southern Railway to achieve zero-unmanned level crossings on operated sections, the release said.
It said that the Kendriya Vidyalaya running from sheds at Mangalore Railway Colony for the last 20 years has been shifted to a new building.
