Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) witnessed unprecedented growth in passenger traffic and aircraft movement to both domestic and international destinations in 2010-11.
The airport saw a 10.11 per cent increase in passenger traffic, with 43,45,179 passengers travelling through the airport in 2010-11, compared with 39,46,103 in 2009-10.
A total of 23,59,937 international passenger movements were recorded during the fiscal, translating into a growth of 5.72 per cent. Kuala Lumpur and Colombo were much-sought-after sectors for international tourists.
There were 18,481 aircraft movements (in terms of both arrivals and departures) in the international sector, registering a growth of 2.29 per cent.
In the domestic sector, the aircraft movement at the airport stood at 22,600, and passenger traffic at 19,85,242, a growth of 15.84 per cent.
The growth in aircraft movement in the international sector was mainly to Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, Riyad, Colombo. And, as for passenger traffic, the increase was mainly to the Doha, Dammam, Jeddah, Riyadh, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur and Colombo sectors. In the domestic sector, there was a fair growth in passenger traffic across all destinations.
This was primarily because of tourism-related travel and introduction of new sectors such as Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
