The government has launched port connectivity projects in various states and has finished only three such assignments so far, Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways Sarvey Sathyanarayana has said.
“The government has launched port connectivity projects in various states of the country under National Highways Development Projects,” the minister informed Lok Sabha in a written reply.
As per the official data, port connectivity at the Paradip Port in Odisha, Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai have been completed.
“There has been some delay in completing some of the projects due to various project specific reasons including failure of the state government to provide encumbrance free land,” he said.
“All possible steps at every level are being taken to sort out the matters and remove the hurdles which are causing delay.”
There are 12 major ports in the country - Kolkata (Haldia), Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Tuticorin, Cochin, New Mangalore, Mormugao, Mumbai, JNPT, Ennore and Kandla.
