The public hearing on the proposed LNG terminal project at Gangavaram port, scheduled to held on Friday, has been postponed and a fresh date will be notified later, according to Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board official Osman Ali Khan.
He said here on Thursday that the recent heavy rains and the consequent disruption of normal life in the neighbourhood had forced the postponement of the public hearing.
The terminal will have a capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum (initially 5 MTPA) and now pre-project works are going on. The draft environment impact assessment (EIA) report has been submitted to the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board. The investment in the first phase is Rs 4,500 crore.
The front-end engineering design document is being prepared by Engineers India Ltd and it may be ready soon. The topography survey, soil analysis and other preliminary surveys will be completed in a few months and the contract may be awarded sometime during January or February, 2013. It will take three years to construct the terminal and commission it.
