Railways earnings up 20%

The Railways has earned Rs 1,01,223.95 crore during April 2012 to January 2013 as against Rs 84,083.74 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 20.38 per cent.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 56,163.30 crore during April 2011-January 2012 to Rs 70,067.36 crore during April 2012-January 2013, registering an increase of 24.76 per cent.

The passenger earnings during this 10-month period in the current fiscal were Rs 25,924.29 crore compared to Rs 23,344.42 crore during the same period last fiscal, registering an increase of 11.05 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 2,617.19 crore during this period compared to Rs 2,353.54 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 11.20 per cent.

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during 1st April 2012-31st January 2013 were 7,150.60 million compared to 6,910 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 3.48 per cent.

The Railways have increased the passenger fare in all classes by 21 per cent from December 22 with the aim of mopping up total Rs 6,600 cr in the next fiscal 2013-14 and Rs 1,200 cr in the current fiscal.
