The Railways will float tenders to procure at least 200 MW of solar energy in the next two months, a step which will promote use of non-conventional energy in its daily functioning.
Union Minister of State for Railways Manoj Kumar Sinha said the Centre is working out details of the plan. The tender is part of Railways’ plan to procure 1,000 MW of solar energy over the next five years.
The Ministry has commissioned one mega watt solar power plant — the largest such project in the country till now — at Katra Railway station in Jammu and Kashmir on March 30.
