The Palakkad division of Southern Railway has shown a growth of 163 per cent in goods earnings during the first 25 days of January, according to Mr S.K. Raina, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division, Southern Railway.
He was speaking at the Republic Day celebrations of the division at Palakkad on Thursday, a press release issued said.
Till January 25, the goods earnings from the division stood at Rs 21.4 crore against Rs 8.13 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year, recording a growth of 163 per cent.
Considering the future projections of traffic flow from New Mangalore Port, the goods earnings from the division are likely to increase considerably in the next two months. “This will help us to achieve the target fixed for the division of Rs 597 crore,” he said.
Mr Raina said the total earnings during April-December stood at Rs 441 crore (Rs 419 crore), recording a growth of 5.25 per cent. Of this, the share of passenger earnings stood at Rs 295 crore (Rs 258 crore), recording a growth of 14.34 per cent.
During the first nine months of the current fiscal, the division handled 5.91 crore (5.41 crore) passengers, recording a growth of 9.24 per cent. The division has handled 50 lakh additional passengers in first three quarters of this financial year, which in itself is a great achievement, he said.
The performance of division has been good in other coaching earnings, sundry earnings, ticket checking earnings and parcel earnings also, he said.
The cumulative punctuality of the division was 94.4 per cent for mail and express trains and 92.9 per cent for passenger trains during April-December period, he added.
