The Shipping Ministry has estimated an investment of Rs 1,80,626.23 crore during the 12th Five-Year Plan for the port sector.
“To meet the projected demand of 943.06 million tonne of cargo to be handled by major ports and 815.20 million tonne by non-major ports as envisaged by the Working Group of 12th Five-Year Plan for the sector, both (major and non-major ports) have conceptualised various capacity augmentation schemes with an estimated investment of Rs 1,80,626.23 crore during the Plan period,” Mr G.K. Vasan, Minister of Shipping, informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.
