Singapore Airlines will add an extra weekly service from Ahmedabad to Singapore to make it four times a week for the month of May to cater to the strong seasonal demand, an official said here on Friday.
Demand on the Ahmedabad-Singapore route, the only non-stop international service to the Far East has been especially strong. To meet it, the airlines will maintain three weekly services throughout the northern summer schedule starting on March 31, said G M Toh, General Manager India, Singapore Airlines.
Meanwhile, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has introduced new attractions to enthrall the Indian travellers as part of its second phase of the customized and differentiated marketing campaign for leisure travellers. Christened as “Singapore—The Holiday You Take Home With You”, it aims to entice new and repeat travellers, G B Srithar, Area Director, South Asia, STB, said.
In the first half of 2012, 7.1 million travelers visited Singapore, with India, the fourth major market, accounting for 478,000, or 6% of the total. In 2011, altogether 8.69 lakh Indian travellers visited Singapore, contributing about 7 per cent of revenue to the island-state’s total revenue in tourism. In all, tourism contributes 4-5 per cent of revenues in Singapore’s economy, he said.
The number of Indian travellers to Singapore for business purposes is 1/4th of the total number of Indian travellers.
