World's first solar-powered aircraft, Solar Impulse-2 is set for the takeoff for the third flight on its journey around the world.Si2 will takeoff for Varanasi from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport at 5.30 am on Wednesday.
Varanasi is the third of the twelve scheduled destinations the flight is likely to cover during its world tour. Bad weather condition in Ahmedabad extended the stay of the plane, which was scheduled to leave Ahmedabad on March 15.The zero-fuel aircraft will have an 8-hour pit-stop at Varanasi, where the Advance team of Si2 has already landed.
Pilot Andre Borschberg will be in the cockpit for Varanasi trip. Si2 had started its 35,000-kms around-the-world trip from Abu Dhabi on March 9 and came to Ahmedabad at midnight of March 10 with founder and chairman Bertrand Piccard at the cockpit.
