SpiceJet has been allowed to take passenger bookings till October 24.
In a statement, the airline said that bookings were now open for its summer schedule which starts from March 29. The summer schedule will remain in place till October 24.
In December 2014, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had allowed the airline to take advance bookings for only 30 days. This was done because the airline was cancelling a number of flights due to financial troubles.
The ban was eventually lifted and the airline was allowed to take advance bookings till March 28 which has now been extended till October 24 this year.
The move comes after Ajay Singh, a former promoter of SpiceJet who later exited the airline, came up with a proposal to bail out the cash-strapped airline.
Ajay Singh is tying up with JP Morgan and plans to pump in $200 million into the airline.
Ajay Singh’s re-capitalisation proposal is currently being examined by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Government sources indicate that the Ajay Singh-led consortium plans to invest up to Rs 1,500 crore in three tranches of Rs 500 crore each by March.
The airline's outstandings as of early December 2014 stood at Rs 1,600 crore.
