SpiceJet is to connect Madurai with Colombo. It will be the first airline to operate an international flight from Madurai international airport.
The flights will start from September 20 and the ticket bookings are now open, the airline said in a statement.
SpiceJet hopes that the launch would consolidate its position as a preferred airline for travel between India and Sri Lanka.
Madurai is SpiceJet’s second destination connecting Sri Lankan capital Colombo. At present, SpiceJet operates direct fights between Colombo and Chennai.
The airlines has received required clearances from required authorities in Indian and Sri Lanka for these additional flights, it said.
