Budget airline Tigerair has announced a celebratory 50 per cent discount in fares on all of its Singapore-bound flights from five Indian cities. It has also partnered with Singapore Tourism Board to celebrate the country’s Golden Jubilee year this year.

One-way fares The one-way fare starts at ₹3,799 for Indian travellers.

The all-inclusive discounted fare from Chennai to Singapore will be ₹7,999, and a similar fare will be available from other four Indian cities, Teh Yik Chuan, Director, Sales and Marketing, Tigerair Singapore, told newspersons.

Passengers travelling from Chennai, Bengalaru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Tiruchi can avail this offer between July 7 and July 15 (booking period)

The applicable travel period is between August 4 and November 6, he said.

The airline, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, operates a total of 40 weekly flights from Indian cities to Singapore.

Chuan said most of the passengers flying the airline end their journey at Singapore. Tigerair collaborates with Singapore-based Scoot that operates medium- and long-haul no-frills flights to provide passengers onward journey from Singapore to countries such as Australia, Philippines, Malaysia or Hong Kong. The joint ticket will be issued by Tigerair, he said. As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, Singapore is rolling out a bonanza of promotions and special experiences for overseas visitors. For instance, one can stay for two nights and get the third night free in nearly 50 leading hotels in Singapore, said Bridget Goh, Area Director, Singapore Tourism Board.

Muted growth India is among the top five visitor markets for Singapore with over 9.43 lakh Indian travellers last year. This is 1 per cent increase over the previous year. This muted growth, which was not unique for India alone, was due to global economic downturn. However, from the beginning of this year, there is an uptake in the number of visitors to Singapore, she said.
