The trial run at Kurnool airport was successful on Monday, when the flight from Hyderabad to Kurnool landed successfully at the airport at Orvakallu.
Ajay Jain, the Principal Secretary (Energy and Infrastructure), AP, who travelled in the flight, said it was a matter of great satisfaction that the work on the airport had been completed in just 18 months. "The Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone in June, 2017, and the airport is ready. The trial run has been successful and we will now apply for clearances from the Director-General of Civil Aviation and we are hopeful of getting them in 2-3 months. The airport will be ready for summer schedule. The first flight will be from Kurnool to Vijayawada and later Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru will be connected," he said.
He said the Chief Minister would dedicate the airport to the nation on Jan. 8. The airport was built on 1,000 acres and so far Rs 100 crores was spent on it. An industrial estate is coming up near the airport.
