VO Chidambaranar port in Tuticorin has got two awards - one for higher growth rate in cargo handling and another for achieving higher score in the Results Framework Document targets – during 2015-16 from the Shipping Ministry.
For the first time, the Ministry had conferred various annual achievement awards for Major ports.
S Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman, VOC Port Trust, and S Natarajan, Deputy Chairman, VOC Port Trust, received the awards from Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on June 4 at a function in Goa during a review of port performance.
VOC port handled all time record cargo traffic of 36.85 million tonne during 2015-16 and surpassed the previous year’s achievement of 32.41 MT, 1 13.70 per cent growth. It also crossed the ministry’s target of 36.80 MT during the year, says a press release.
The port also achieved various parameters of RFD to enhance traffic throughput, to augment port’s capacity at, to provide efficient, prompt, safe and timely seaport service at optimum cost, improve financial parameter and administrative reforms, the release said.
