Jet Airways on Friday said that Vikram Singh Mehta has expressed his inability to continue as an independent director on the board of the company due to his recent time constraints, commitments and other obligations Mehta has consequently resigned from his position with immediate effect

As per Mehta, “In recent months, the call on my time from my other obligations has mounted and I find it increasingly difficult to dedicate the time and attention required to discharge my fiduciary responsibilities. It is for this reason that I have resigned. I wish to express my gratitude to my colleagues on the board for their support and to the Chairman for his leadership.”

Mehta started his career with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1978. He resigned from the IAS in 1980 and spent the next 32 years in the petroleum industry both in the public and private sector. He left the petroleum industry in 2012 as Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in India. He is currently the Executive Chairman of the Think Tank Brookings India and Senior Fellow of Bookings Institution.
